Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar is the 8th (IITs) announced by the Ministry of Human Resource Development in 2008. IIT Gandhinagar institute started operating in a temporary campus of Vishwakarma GEC college campus at chandkheda mentored by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay. The first batch of students was enrolled in three programs likewise: Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, and Electrical Engineering
